Number 64: Visit the cultural embassy

in association with Life in Amsterdam

The Cultural Embassy is based at Lloyds Hotel.Catch Tram 10 or 25 and hop off at Rietland park, where the Lloyds Hotel is located. The hotel is housed in the former 'waiting room' of the emigrants heading for South America. Quite like the Conservatorium and College Hotel, the interior of the Lloyds hotel reflects the oldness of the 1912 building mixed with modern Amsterdam design. The stunning bar-restaurant has an informal ambiance and a 'living room' with comfortable sofa's in the back. Free wifi allows you to surf around on Facebook while enjoying a cup of coffee or hot cacao. Kids can play upstairs (1st floor) where there is a box with toys.

When you have recovered from the tram ride (it wasn't that bad, was it?), mount the stairs and enjoy the (free) exhibition of the cultural embassy. There's a library with those old English armchairs, modern furniture design, work space (where you can surf again or play online poker) and many flyers of past and upcoming cultural events in Amsterdam. You can also enjoy the permanent photo exhibition in the staircase leading to the rooms, which is a different staircase than the one starting in the restaurant.

The bucket list was compiled by Kira Nijenhuis for her website Life in Amsterdam. It's our favourite guide to the city's bars, restaurants, attractions and shops, regularly updated with all the latest news and word on the streets. Check out the full bucket list and the rest of the site here.
